Message 1) assembling the second compression ring on the pistons and following the FSM. FSM mentions to look for an etched N on the rings and if visible make sure they are facing up. I inspect the rings, don't see anything and install all the rings. On the last piston, I get paranoid, look everything over and decide to grab a magnifying glass, well what do you know, there is an N on the rings. I inspect all the pistons and four pistons had the ring upside down. I went to flip them and on the last piston I broke the ring. This was back in 2007-2008 so no one carried single OEM rings so I had to buy a complete ring set just to replace that one broken ring. If I recall that was a $200 set back.

2) I went to replace injector #5 using the dremel method and I managed to grind right through the plenum. I ended up havign to remove the plenum and taking in to have it welded.

3) When I got my Z running, I didn't really know how to properly drive it and what behavior boost does, so somehow I thought I have a massive boost leak. Dave N came over and took the car out for a spin, realized what the problem was and promptly began making fun of me. I just didn't hold down the throttle long enough. Hi Dave!

4) Did not use a gasket maker on the coolant freeze plugs, thus all of them ended up dripping coolant. They are meant to be pressed in, but somehow I did not get the memo on needing to use a small amount of gasket maker to make them seal completely.

5) I did not inspect the coolant bypass tube correctly and thus ended up having a massive coolant leak from the joint that leads toward the back of the enging (the tube right in the middle of the engine). It was so bad that I ended up having to pull my freshly installed engine to correct this mistake and remedy the issue exhibiting from noob mistake #4 above.

I have nightmares about that happening...I'd be the poor bastard you'd hear about on the news that gets killed by a softball-size chunk while spreading out my body over the hood and screaming "Nooo!" (Having a conversation about hail damage) - BradZ (FL) on March 25, 2005 at 9:56 PM

Tell your friend that you could take a dump, light it on fire and that would be hotter shit than his car. Probes suck, that's just all there is to it. - 300ZXpert (someday) on April 04, 2005 at 11:35 PM

P.S. You REALLY are on here at ALL hours! And I thought I was bad! :) - zmenon on August 16, 2005 at 3:06 AM
